The first new Sony FE Lens of 2020! Here's the 20mm f/1.8. Not an ultra wide prime, but a nice little fast wide angle that could be great for a number of uses. Sony asked me to try this lens out for a few days. One week in between 2 trips and during the moving of my house, my first response was : “sure!” . The bad weather in the Netherlands certainly didn’t help much, but I managed to test the lens in a variety of conditions. In this little article I’ll be addressing my first
I am currently using the BenQ SW271 monitor for my image processing. I have been using this monitor for a couple of months. It’s now a crucial display in my work environment at home when I am working on images in between my travels. Full disclosure for this review: BenQ sent this monitor to me to test out. I have been using it for a few months and so far I am very satisfied with the display. In this review I’ll talk about the display itself and why exactly it is important if
Last week Sony called me if I wanted to test the new A7III for a few days. Of course I would! Having been very busy with travelling and not spending too much time at home I wasn’t too ‘up-to-date’ on the announcement of the camera and what to expect. I am currently using the A7RIII and thought the A7III would just be an upgraded A7II. I got a bit more than expected. The A7III turned out to be an amazing all round camera that even beat my A7RIII on some levels. I was impressed
Yesterday on the 15th of November 2017 I received the new Sony A7RIII. Today was the first day I tried the camera with some autumn landscapes in my own neighbourhood. The reason I want to crank out an article so fast is because people already asked me lots of questions especially on my Instagram stories. Autumn is exceptionally beautiful in the Netherlands this year because we didn’t get strong winds for a long time. This means all the colourful leaves are still on the trees.
It’s finally here! The highly anticipated Sony 16-35 f/2.8 GM! Many people have been waiting for this lens and Sony finally brought it to us. With the newly released Sony 16-35 f/2.8 I’ve been getting many questions from people if they should buy the f/2.8 or keep using their f/4 (or buy the f/4 if they don’t have it yet). I’ve already seen some reviews out there so I am not just going to review this new lens. I’ve had the chance to use it for a couple of weeks (brought it to
The filter market is currently booming and everyone is trying to get a piece of the pie. You might have heard of Benro from their good quality tripods. They have recently released their filter systems along with their filters. I have tested their current 100mm filter holder (The FH100) and a bunch of their 100x100 and 100x150 graduated filters. Benro also has a 75x75 and 150x150 system. Benro’s filters are delivered in hard strong plastic cases. In these cases are soft cloth
Samyang is showing some love for the E-mount by coming with 2 new lenses specifically designed for the Sony E-mount: The 50mm f/1.4 and the new 14mm f/2.8. The 14mm is interesting for me especially because the ‘old’ E-mount version (not specifically designed for mirrorless, basically a DSLR version with a built in adapter which makes it big’) was one of my favourite fast wide-angle primes because it was so sharp wide open at f/2.8. As I only had this lens for a few days I wil
Hey guys, I've been getting a lot of questions regarding gear I use lately. Therefore I decided to make a Gear Talk series in which I will talk about the gear I use in the field and off the field. I'll talk about gear I've been using for a longer amount of time and new gear I just received. There will be ordinary reviews, but also just new observations about gear in general. Anything goes! New announcements, question rounds, complaints, reviews, anything. Think of lenses, cam
I recently had the privilege to try the new Laowa 12mm f2.8. As I am an extreme wide-angle lover this lens intrigued me. In general, it’s great to see so much lens manufacturers bringing extreme wide-angle lenses to the Sony E-mount. It’s not only Laowa that is noticing the popularity of the E-mount wide angles. One year ago there were very few choices available and nowadays we can choose between lenses from Samyang (who are also coming with a new version of one of my favorit
Nisi as a Brand For those of you that don’t know Nisi: Nisi is a camera filter brand based in Zhuhai, China. They are mainly known for their 6k Cinema filters with impressive coating. For a while now, they have been focusing on smaller filters for the (professional) photography industry. I have been following them for about a year and they keep improving their products and bringing out new versions. It’s interesting that they are really trying to conquer the market (as the Ch
Smartphone Photography In this article / review I’m going to talk about smartphone photography. With smartphones rapidly getting more advanced it’s the question of when smartphone cameras and sensors will catch up with modern professional cameras. There are people who use their smartphones for almost all of their ‘photography’. These people usually display their images on social media where resolution isn’t really an issue. However, smartphone sensors are getting bigger too.
I recently made a trip to Dubai and brought along a fisheye lens for a change. I have to say that I am unexperienced with fisheye lenses and I usually do not shoot with them. As I am a very creative person I figured I could try something new to give some new creative possibilities while shooting. Dubai was the perfect place, as a fisheye effect from rooftop view can be pretty awesome. As most of you know I am a landscape photographer. I mainly shoot with wide lenses. The Sony
